Return To Duty For Employees or prospective Employees

If the employee is registered or required to be registered in the FMCSA Clearinghouse and have failed a DOT urinalysis by testing positive for one of the five drugs and/or failed a breathalizer by testing positive or has failed to provide a sample there several steps you must take to be able to return to duy.

  1. First you must be registered with the FMCSA Clearinghouse.

You must choose a Substance Abuse Professional through the Clearinghouse and receive an acceptance from the SAP

  1. You will have an Initial Evaluation completed by the SAP who documents this in the Clearinghouse.
  2. You will be required to do Education and/or Treatment as assigned by the SAP.  When completed--
  3. You will be reevaluated to be certain you have been successful in your treatment and/or education.
  4. If you are successful the SAP will clear you for taking a DOT Return to Duty urinalysis and if negative you can resume using your CDL.

Note that the employer must schedule the DOT RTD urinalysis.          https://clearinghouse.fmcsa.dot.gov/
